Canada/Taiwan - The Dance Centre
Sammy Chien (Canada/Taiwan) is a Vancouver based interdisciplinary media artist who seeks to merge cinema, sound art, new media and dance performances techniques into a new individual practice. His background is in experimental film, electroacoustic music and digital technology. He began his new media dance performance journey with Dr. Henry Daniel & Troika Ranch (in Touched, T2, Imprint MoA, Imprint II). Since then, Sammy frequently collaborates both visually and aurally in multi-disciplinary projects range from film, dance performance, improvised audiovisual performance, live electronics, concert, theatre, video installation, art exhibition and interdisciplinary collaborative-performance. In the past years, his work has been featured in Canada, India, Germany and Taiwan. Sammy has achieved several research assistantship such as the Canada Council/NSERC New Media Grant 2007-2010, as well as been involve in research and collaborations in several projects that focus on the integration of art, science and technology. Sammy is a co-founder/artistic director of Chimerik collective. Outside of the rigorous art world, Sammy VJs & DJs for art shows, bars, underground parties and concerts.
